Implementation Guidelines
Test Scenario Implementation
When implementing expanded test scenarios:
-
Reproducibility
- Make tests deterministic where possible
- Use seeded random values for predictable variation
- Create detailed test environment documentation
- Implement test case serialization and replay
-
Realistic Conditions
- Model tests on real-world usage patterns
- Use realistic data sizes and message frequencies
- Simulate actual network conditions
- Include external system integration points
-
Scaling Approach
- Create tests that can scale from small to large networks
- Implement progressive test complexity
- Use virtualization for large-scale tests
- Create distributed test harnesses for huge networks
Internationalization Implementation
For implementing internationalization support:
-
Timestamp Management
- Use standardized timestamp formats internally
- Maintain timezone information where relevant
- Implement proper serialization of timestamps
- Create utilities for timestamp manipulation
-
Character Encoding
- Standardize on UTF-8 for all string data
- Implement conversion utilities for legacy encodings
- Add validation for properly formed strings
- Include support for emoji and special characters
-
Localization Resources
- Create a structured resource system for translations
- Implement runtime locale switching
- Support plural forms and language variations
- Add context-based translation selection
Cross-Component Testing
When implementing cross-component tests:
-
Integration Points
- Identify all component interaction boundaries
- Create specific tests for each integration point
- Test normal and error paths
- Measure performance characteristics
-
Failure Injection
- Implement systematic failure injection
- Test partial failures across components
- Simulate timing-related issues
- Create recovery scenario testing
-
Component Isolation
- Test components with mocked dependencies
- Gradually replace mocks with real components
- Create hybrid real/mock testing environments
- Measure behavior differences between isolated and integrated components
