Relay and Security Implementation Plan

This document outlines the detailed implementation plan for the Relay and Security modules in the Network Library. It covers implementation details, dependencies, interfaces, and testing strategies with a particular focus on tier-aware functionality.

Table of Contents

Introduction and Background

The Network Library provides a hierarchical, resilient networking infrastructure. Two critical components are currently missing or incomplete:

  1. Relay Module: Enables indirect communication between nodes that cannot directly connect
  2. Security Module: Provides authentication, encryption, and access control

This implementation plan addresses these gaps with a particular focus on tier awareness and integration with the existing architecture.

Current State Assessment

Relay Module

Current State: Not implemented

  • Only has types.ts with interfaces and an index.ts that exports them
  • Missing core components like RelayConnectionManager, RelaySelector, etc.

Security Module

Current State: Partially implemented

  • Has types.ts with security interfaces and an index.ts
  • Has a minimal SecurityPlugin implementation with placeholder methods
  • Missing comprehensive security framework
